The Reagan family endures a high stakes battle with Muslim terrorists bent on detonating bombs in New York City on the season six premiere of “Blue Bloods.”
As the episode opens, New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) tells his father Henry (Len Cariou) that a suicide bomber has killed 56 people in Tel Aviv, Israel – and there’s evidence that coordinated attacks around the world might include New York.
“This is the day I dread every day I’m on the job,” a grim Frank sighs to his dad.

Cut to a gentleman’s club where a stripper named Lacey is being bothered by a regular customer, a foreign man who gives her money for a lap dance and says, “This will be the last time you ever see me,” and tells her he is looking forward to his 72 virgins in heaven.
“Everyone will know my name,” he boasts.
Suspicious, Lacey immediately calls the police and reports the man was saying some crazy things that remind her of 9/11 terrorism.
Later, Frank’s policeman son Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and his partner Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) interview Lacey, who says the customer’s name is Stas—and they decide to look at him on the club’s security video.
Meanwhile, Frank’s other son, Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and his partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) observe a man causing a commotion on a New York street, speaking excitedly in a foreign tongue that neither of them recognize.
The father of a foreign hot dog vendor tells the cops that the man is from Afghanistan and speaks an obscure language called hazaragi—but when he shouts “boom!” they realize he might be agitated about a terror plot.
Maria recruits Barry, a linguistics professor from a local college, to translate for the man and the message is not pretty at the police station.
“He knows of a plot to detonate bombs in the city…today,” the professor declares.
Through the translator, Nazim, the Afghan man, says three men, who are his tenants, are angry that they are unable to get jobs or dates with American girls.
Nazim says he saw three suicide style bombs, but doesn’t know if the men are affiliated with the Tel Aviv bombers.
Although the translator says Nazim loves America, Danny is concerned HE might be the one making the bombs.
Later, however, Maria says Nazim wasn’t on a watch list and had come into the country legally.
When they show him a picture of Stas, Nazim confirms the strip club customer is one of the suspected terrorists.
Meanwhile, Frank tells his aide Lt. Sid Gormley (Robert Clohessy) to check out Stas through Canadian law enforcement as that’s sometimes where terrorists slip through.
When Frank’s assistant says terrorists have hit London and Bangladesh, the commissioner vows it won’t happen in New York.
Danny and Maria observe the apartment building where they suspect the terrorists are holed up with their bombs, but they have different opinions about the scenario.
“Just because they’re Muslims doesn’t mean they’re terrorists,” Maria says, but Danny insists they fit the profile.
While the detectives and the bomb squad get ready to bust into the apartment building, another Reagan, Assistant District Attorney Erin (Bridget Moynahan) advises her father
Frank that without enough cause, the move could result in disaster.
Erin asks what will happen if Frank is responsible for killing three Muslims — without a bomb in sight?
But the determined police commissioner says he will take the risk.
With Danny watching from outside, Maria and the police team sneak into the apartment building with guns drawn and after hearing Muslim chanting from the apartment, they storm in.
Although the police shout “don’t move!” the two men there grab for their bombs and Maria and the other cops shoot them without the bombs detonating.
Danny rushes in and notices there are only two bombs that didn’t go off — the third one is missing.
Later, one terrorist from the apartment is still alive at the hospital and Danny convinces the doctor he needs to interview the dying Muslim.
Danny asks the terrorist to reveal his target for the missing third bomb but the man only sneers, “It’s too late to stop it. It is God’s will…I die, a hundred more take my place.”
Danny tells him there’s no virgins waiting for him and that he has failed as they’d found his bombs.
The detective threatens to pull the plug on him in his hospital bed, but the man won’t talk.
Alarmed, Barry the translator summons the doctor, saying Danny is going to kill the suspect, but when they return to the room, the detective has simply left in frustration.
Then Frank’s aide tells him he was right—the missing third terrorist, Stas, DID go through Canada to get to the U.S.
When Jamie tells his father he’d come up with nothing on Stas at the strip club, Frank asks him to try again.
At the club, Jamie and Eddie question Lacey once more and the stripper remembers Stas had invited her out on a date to Cipriani, the New York restaurant where he worked.
Danny rushes to Cipriani and an employee says the guy did manual labor there. While inspecting the place, they find blood seeping from under the door of a supply closet and a restaurant manager dead behind the door.
After Danny summons the bomb squad, he proceeds up the stairs at Cipriani with his gun drawn and spots a man behind a plate glass window.
Danny vaults through the glass, badly cutting himself and getting into a brutal fist fight with the terrorist.
The desperate battle ends when the man reaches for the detonator of the third bomb—but a bloody and battered Danny shoots him to death just in time.
Then viewers see a relieved Frank discussing with his aides how the crisis had been averted.
He muses that terrorism is so insidious that “you wake up thinking, is this the day?”
However, Frank doesn’t publicly share how the city had narrowly dodged disaster, saying in a press conference that the shooting of the man at Cipriani was an isolated incident.
The episode wraps up with the Reagan family Sunday dinner scene in which Danny is at the table with a nasty gash on his forehead but otherwise looking fine.
Bridget’s daughter Nicky (Sami Gayle) announces she’s going gluten free and then, after teasing from her cousins, admits she has a guy “friend” who has Celiac’s disease.
After Danny’s young sons admit they have friends who are having beer parties, their father is outraged.
Frank notes that they are all better off not knowing some things about each other.
“Sometimes ignorance is bliss,” his daughter Erin agrees as the episode ends.
“Blue Bloods” airs Friday on CBS.
